Babar Azam to take legal action over leaked WhatsApp conversation

Babar Azam will meet Zaka Ashraf today. — ICCThe captain of the Pakistan cricket team Babar Azam has decided to take legal action over his leaked WhatsApp conversation which was aired during a live show by a local journalist on a private media channel.The chat surfaced after Rashid Latif, the former wicketkeeper batter of Pakistan, claimed that Babar Azam has been sending messages to the PCB Management Committee Chairman Zaka Ashraf, Chief Operating Officer Salman Naseer and Director of International Cricket Usman Wahla but all three of them are not responding. Azam decided to take this step after thorough consultation with his legal team.It must be noted that Azam reached the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore on Wednesday to meet with Ashraf to discuss his future as the team’s captain.Azam has completed consultation with people close to him regarding his captaincy and has decided that he will step down from all formats if he is asked to keep his captaincy only in one format.Earlier today, it was reported that the PCB has decided to strip Babar Azam of captaincy from all formats, sources told Geo News.The development came after Babar-led Pakistan didn’t qualify for the semi-finals of the ICC World Cup 2023 in India.The sources said if Babar decides to submit his resignation, the board would accept it, otherwise, PCB will sack him from the post.They added that Shan Masood is a strong candidate for the captain's slot in the upcoming Test series against Australia and Shaheen Shah Afridi for the T20I series in New Zealand.Shaheen might also lead the Green Shirts in next year's T20 World Cup, the sources said.Babar was appointed white-ball captain in 2019 and as Test skipper in 2020, but the Green Shirts have not won any ICC or Asia Cup titles under his leadership.Although, the Pakistan team went into the World Cup ranked as the top side, they failed to prove their mettle and crashed out of the tournament in the group stage.
